Rock out with Sage! While checking out a Q&A session ranging from a ski-off with Chuck Norris to his scariest moment on snow this year, stream a few of Sage’s favorite DJ mixes as well as his “Pro Playlist.”
[Sage] “Mostly what I listen to are Dj mixes. I love the way a mix takes you on a musical journey, it allows the artist to share a collection of music with the listener as a work of art.”
[Earlyups] Do you listen to tunes while you’re skiing? Have a particular song that gets you fired up when you’re on top of a scary line?
[Sage] Mostly I listen to music on the ski area while shredding around solo, it gives me that extra boost to stay in a state of flow while on and off the lift. I like having head phones built into my Smith Helmet so that I can plug in when the mood strikes, while filming I like being able to plug in just for a song or two while waiting on top of a line or in a moment of down time to keep the juices flowing.
[Earlyups] Scariest moment on snow this season?
[Sage] Now that its summer Its hard to dredge up the scary moments, but the worst one was freeskiing at Snowbird when I greatly miss judged the distance I needed to carry to clear some rocks, I ended up realizing as soon as i took off that I would surely land right on a jagged mass of rock and ended up getting away with a cracked side wall, and a big scare.
[Earlyups] Who would win in a ski-off, you or Chuck Norris?
[Sage] Not many things that I would be confident in beating Chuck Norris at, but a ski off would be one of them.
[Earlyups] What are your thoughts on listening to music while in the backcountry?
[Sage] On a log slog, yea, but in terrain that you need to keep your awareness, no.
[Earlyups] Favorite Apres Beverage?
[Sage] Coconut water.
[Earlyups] If you can load only one heli, who’s coming with you?
[Sage] Oakley White Allen, Matt Collins, Jack Pilot, and a guide. Those guys are my Snowbird free shred crew and would love to get the opportunity to fly with them.
[Earlyups] What’s your favorite song ever used in a TGR segment?
[Sage] I think Random Rab “The Riddle” for one I’ve picked , and Metallica “For Whom the Bell Tolls” for one that TGR picked.
[Sage] Just got back from a bike trip in JH riding on Teton pass. I hit up the TGR office for a edit session, and did a fair amount of socializing with friends and colleagues. The Pass is some of the funnest freeride mt. biking around, fast flowing trails, that the Teton Freedom Riders have put in a great deal of work on. Checking out a sneak peak of the new TGR movie The Dream Factory was super inspiring, and reminded me of the amazing opportunities that winter provides. Jackson is home to many awesome people so its great to connect and spend time there in any season.
