I actually do not listen to music when I ski. I feel that music it takes from the charm and serenity of the mountains. I also love shredding with my friends it seems to take some of the social aspect out of skiing when your boy is making a playlist on the chair.
[Earlyups] What about in the backcountry or while filming?
Being in the backcountry is about awareness and paying attention to your surroundings. Another major aspect of being in the backcountry is having the ability to relay messages to people within your party. If someone has their headphones on, that can put a major kink in the line of communication and can result in serious consequences. Solid communication is even more important when you’re filming. Poor comm results in missed shots or worse, careless mistakes.
[Earlyups] Do you listen to music before/during (or both) when sending something big? Do you have a go-to song to get you fired up?
It’s all about listening to music to get fired up. It can be a real mood setter. I really enjoy listening to Al Green, Let it Shine on the way to the hill. It gets my imagination teaming with thoughts of surfy pow shots and smooth floaty spins off natural terrain. Soul music fills my head with thoughts of being immersed in deep snow.
